Meet the Director
C’ZER MORALES MEDINA, known as Mr. C, is the founder and artistic director at DanzJazz Entertainment Company / Dance Studio. He is also part of Guam's GATE Visual and Performing Arts Program (VPA) as a dance teacher, and a director for their All-Star GATE Dance Company. Concurrently, he is the advisor for the Simon Sanchez High School's Dance Team, The Movement.
EDUCATION AND DANCE TRAINING
Mr. Medina accomplished his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance (1998) and Masters of Arts in Dance, with emphasis in choreography (2017) at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). He was chosen to perform a modern dance duet with the late Ms. Susan McLain- Smith, a former Principal dancer for the Martha Graham Dance Company. During his studies, he received several scholarships for his outstanding performances and choreographies, including the Dramatic Allied Arts Guild, Gloria Newman Dance Scholarship, and the American Dance Festival (ADF). Mr. Medina also received a full year scholarship at the Tremaine Performing Arts Center -- of the leading dance schools in Hollywood, California.
Before leaving California in 1999, Mr. Medina performed with the CSULB Dance Company, Disneyland in Anaheim, Jose Costas Dance Company and other companies in the mainland. He has worked with renowned choreographers, such as Marguerite Derricks (Showgirls), Billy Goodson (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun), and Wade Robson (Wade Projects/You got Served). Mr. Medina also appeared on “Between the Sheets” featuring Dom DeLuise (2003) and “Fame LA” (television series)
SERVING GUAM'S COMMUNITY
Medina returned to Guam and successfully auditioned as a dancer for SandCastle Entertainment in Tumon. He produced cocktail shows at the Pacific Islands Club in 2001. Shortly after, Medina began teaching dance and performing arts to the island's youth community. He was the dance director and instructor at FBLG Middle School from 2000 to 2003 before transferring in 2007 to Simon Sanchez High School -- serving as the Fine Arts Chair at Simon Sanchez High School (2012). He choreographed for local artists as well as productions for Santa Barbara Catholic School, GATE Theatre, and Hyatt Managerial Team. Medina is is also the official choreographer for the Ms. Guam Universe Pageant. His work includes award winning pieces from DanzJazz Touring Company's competitions in Las Vegas, Nevada (2004 and 2011) and New York City (2007 & 2017).
Guam Allied Dance Fore (ADF), a local non-profit organization, was establshed by Medina, and he currently serves as the organization's artistic director and president. The All High School and Middle School Dance Competition, an annual event hosted by ADF, takes place towards the end of each school year to benefit a chosen local charity. He also serves as the Guam Gymnastics Federation (GGF) Vice President.
In 2012, the Legislature of Guam recognized his efforts in providing a creative outlet through dance, and for inspiring his students and the people of Guam. The resolution was introduced by former senator Aileen Yamashita.
OTHER VENTURES
As an entrepreneur, Medina opened Guam's first dance apparel shop, Signature Dancewear (SDW), in 2006. It is the exclusive distributor for Capezio in the Micronesian region. In December 2020, he wrote and produced an original song, "Guam Christmas Carol" to benefit Guam Salvation Army. At the same time, Mr. Medina was the chairperson for the Guam Dance Festival Virtual Christmas Dance Showcase, “Hope, Love & Peace.“ The festival was aired on KUAM TV to bring up the spirits of the local community amidst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
